Sophie finds plenty to laugh about in special family days out with Cowes Sailability Club.

Meet Sophie

There is not much that makes Sophie laugh, but a day out with Cowes Sailability Club definitely does!   As soon as the boat begins to move, she gets the biggest smile on her face.  Every bump and movement of the boat leads to laughter and when she senses that the boat is about to accelerate, she loves it.

It’s just so lovely to see her grin and laugh.

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to go on two boat trips with Cowes Sailability Club this year.  Sophie is profoundly disabled due to a rare chromosome disorder, but she can access the boats easily and even take a turn at driving the boats from her wheelchair.

On our most recent trip, she was accompanied by her 78-year old nan, who was, to be honest, a bit reluctant about going on a boat herself.  However, she had such a great time and her smiles were as big as Sophie’s!  It was so great for us to be able to spend a happy day all together—one of the best days ever.
