CCYC donates £2,000 and continues its valued support
Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club (CCYC) has made a generous donation of £2,000 to Cowes Sailability Club to help with the many expenses involved in running a sailing charity. CCYC has hosted Cowes Sailability Club for over 15 years, providing the perfect venue from which the charity can offer amazing sailing opportunities to people with disabilities.
Members and volunteers from Cowes Sailability Club meet on Monday afternoons at CCYC during the spring and summer to take part in accessible sailing and boating activities. CCYC also provides berthing for the charity’s Drascombe sailing boats and use of its facilities for meetings and social events during the year.
In June, CCYC hosted Cowes Sailability Club’s summer barbecue for members, volunteers and supporters. This social event was well attended and provided a wonderful opportunity for members and volunteers to spend time together in a relaxed, informal atmosphere, enjoying the pleasant venue. Many burgers and sausages were consumed!
Roger Sutton, Commodore of Cowes Sailability Club, says, “Cowes Sailability is very fortunate to be based at CCYC. Their unwavering support and assistance has enabled us to sail and berth our boats and provide a safe and welcoming environment for our members and volunteers. Our recent barbecue is an example; by allowing Cowes Sailability Club the use of CCYC’s facilities, a good time was had by all.”
Belinda is one of the many members of Cowes Sailability Club who participates regularly in sailing activities departing from CCYC on Monday afternoons. She has found sailing with Cowes Sailability Club extremely beneficial for her health and wellbeing.
She says: “What a joyous, exhilarating and rewarding experience it has been to take part in the physical activity of sailing with Cowes Sailability Club! As a wheelchair user, being on a boat has resulted in a positive effect on my health and strength, with various muscles exercised in ways they had not been previously. My quality of sleep improves greatly after time on the water. To feel the sun, wind and spray when on the sea in the charity’s dinghies is invigorating!”
Commenting on the long partnership between CCYC and Cowes Sailability Club, Simon Percival, Vice Commodore of CCYC says: “At CCYC, volunteering and enjoying the water are at the heart of what makes the club the friendliest in Cowes. We are proud of our close association with Cowes Sailability Club.”
