Cowes Sailability Club is celebrating the news that it has received a £5,000 Community Grant from the mutual financial services company OneFamily.  This welcome donation will be put towards the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible motorboat, enabling the club to expand the range of recreational boating opportunities it can provide for adults and children with physical disabilities and learning difficulties.

Cowes Sailability Club was nominated for the OneFamily Foundation Community Grant by one of the company’s customers, Meryel Boyd.  “I have been volunteering with Cowes Sailability Club for 10 years and know, first-hand, just how life-changing boating and sailing can be for people with disabilities,” Meryel says.  “I am delighted that the OneFamily Foundation has been able to support this local charity and help it purchase a new boat, so that many more people with disabilities will be able to enjoy being on the water in the future.”

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, Chief Commercial Officer at OneFamily says: “Our OneFamily Foundation supports the causes that matter to our customers, helping to make a positive difference in their local communities. We’re delighted to have awarded a grant to the club via our Foundation Community Grants programme. By purchasing a wheelchair-accessible boat they will be able to provide more opportunities to people with disabilities, furthering the life-changing experiences that they offer through their sailing activities”.

Trish Rooke, Fundraising Officer at Cowes Sailability Club, says: “We are so grateful to the OneFamily Foundation for its support and to Meryel for nominating Cowes Sailability Club for a Community Grant.  The money donated brings us another step closer to our goal of purchasing a new motorboat, specially adapted to accommodate wheelchairs and meet the needs of people with disabilities on the Isle of Wight.”
