Sailing and boating for disabled people will recommence from 28th April 2025
Volunteers and members of Cowes Sailability Club are excitedly counting down the days until the start of the 2025 sailing season. Activities for people with disabilities are due to recommence on Monday 28th April, with places currently still available for sailing and boating trips on this date and throughout the spring and summer months.
“The weather is improving and there’s lots to look forward to!” exclaims Roger Sutton, Cowes Sailability Club’s Commodore. “After a long winter, all of the volunteers at Cowes Sailability Club are really looking forward to getting back out on the water and helping more disabled people to try sailing or boating—perhaps for the first time.”
Cowes Sailability Club provides accessible opportunities for adults with physical and learning disabilities, poor mental health and long-term medical conditions to learn to sail in a friendly and supportive environment. The charity also organises trips for disabled adults and children on a wheelchair-accessible motorboat from April until September.
Anyone with disabilities who would like to find out more should contact [email protected] or call Chris on 07762 068 097.
Over recent weeks, volunteers have been brushing up their skills in training courses covering safeguarding and safety procedures. Twelve volunteers have gained RYA-accredited first aid qualifications. Volunteers have also been busy readying Cowes Sailability Club’s three sailing boats, which will be refloated on 23rd and 24th April.
New volunteers are warmly welcomed and can support Cowes Sailability Club in a variety of ways from helming the sailing boats, to welcoming disabled members and making cups of tea!
