Meet Bob

Stephen

After having his leg amputated, Bob is readjusting to life and discovering that he can still have new adventures!

I was in the process of moving to the Isle of Wight when I suddenly lost the feeling in one of my legs whilst undergoing chemotherapy.  It had to be amputated and, when I did eventually make the move to the island, it was initially into a ward at St. Mary’s Hospital. My wife and I had planned to spend our time walking and exploring the island, and suddenly all these plans had to change.

Thanks to the brilliant care of the Prosthetic team, I now have a prosthetic limb and I’m beginning to adjust to my new circumstances.  I’m not only learning to walk again but also rebuilding my confidence after a very difficult time.

Anne in the Prosthetic department suggested that I find out about Cowes Sailability Club and I’m so glad that I did.  My wife and I were invited to go on an accessible boat trip organised by the charity during Cowes Week.  The trip was an adventure, which really took my mind off other things.  It lifted my mood and showed me that there are still exciting new things that I can do.

I’m now looking forward to doing more boat trips and sailing activities with Cowes Sailability Club next year!
