Simon OConnor MAIN v2

Simon O’Connor says:

I lost my sight when I was just eleven years old.  Life has brought plenty of challenges since then but, now, as an adult, one of the things that I find hardest is identifying activities and pastimes that I can get fully involved in.

When my sister and brother-in-law discovered Cowes Sailability Club, I was really excited to give sailing a go.  I started going to the Monday afternoon sessions for members, met new people and quickly gained confidence on the water in a range of different boats.  I especially enjoy sailing in Iris and Windhover, the club’s two little sailing boats.  It is so peaceful aboard them, and I can feel the wind on my face.

Cowes Sailability Club has also unlocked doors to other opportunities for me.  Becoming a member of the club gave me the confidence to join a group of able-bodied and disabled people on a week-long sailing holiday, which I thoroughly enjoyed.  Without any doubt, Cowes Sailability Club has opened up a whole new world for me.
